Discerning between DOS and ProDOS order disk images

Postby david__schmidt » Thu Aug 04, 2011 7:34 am

The firmware can now figure out whether a disk image is likely to be in DOS order or ProDOS order when it gets mounted. This is important because the typical 140k disk image ending in the defacto file suffix ".dsk" is not any particular standard... it can be either. Tools like CiderPress let you examine and re-order images, but we really shouldn't have to bother. And now, the CFFA3000 won't need you to bother either - it automatically figures it out:

This works reliably for the standard OSes, and if it's not obvious which order it is in - the CFFA3000 will guess DOS order. This seems reasonable since ADTPro and ADT before it always create images in DOS order, and the vast majority of images in the wild are that way as well. There are probably some edge cases out there, but you still have the option of renaming your images with ".do" or ".po" suffixes to force the CFFA3000's hand.
