Access Statistics

Using the late Glen Bredon?s Prosel 16 utility Volume Repair, Statistics on Disk Access, I came up with these numbers. The results are the average of 3 runs.

Using the Apple Hi-Speed SCSI card with a Quality Computer Q Drive 40MB:
Linear Read = 1.75 ms
Random Read = 24.84 ms
OS Overhead = 8.79

Using the RamFast SCSI Rev. D card, ROM 3.00j, with the Q Drive:
Linear Read = 1.57ms
Random Read = 14.4ms
OS Overhead =1.01ms

Using the CFFA card with 2GB Sandisk card
Linear Read = 3.18
Random Read = 3.83
OS Overhead =0.34

Doug,

Very cool!!

That is pretty much what I would have expected. My CFFA can't keep up on linear reads, because I do not have DMA. Although it only appears to be a factor of 2. I would have expected the RAMFast to be even faster.

On Random read I totally smoke the others, because there is zero seek time.
Of course if you where to use a DMA based IDE controller with a CF card attached, you would get the best numbers.

Overall though, I am pretty happy with those numbers.

Um, I assume the CFFA number are in "ms" too, and not seconds right?

Yes, "ms".

I'm very pleased with the performance also.

I've been using Ciderpress to back up the card on my PC.
That utility is great for this purpose.
