CFFA3000: second PCB prototype nearly complete

Postby rich » Sat Apr 10, 2010 10:39 am

I have the layout for a second prototype of the CFFA3000 PCB complete. I plan to get
this design sent into the PCB next week. And should have the new PCB back the
week after that.

Things have been slow on this project for the last couple months, but I have more time now to
work on the project. I will update my site with pictures when I get the second prototypes built.

looking forward to seeing it... and owning it :)
Do you have a more detailed features list you could post. Or even some screen shots of it in action?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi,

It would be very nice to have and NMI button on the board so later on you could put software like the wilcard 2. it may even be possible to use the ROM of this kind of device directly so no need to write code like done on the C64 by the 1541 Ultimate which is the equivalent of CFFA 3000 for the C64.

Prodev might be an option as source are available : http://prodev.biz/DDT/ddt.htm

Hi Rich,

I am very curious about the status of the new CFFA3000? Do you have any
news to report?

I have 3 CFFA Cards, use them a lot, and plan to get more, when the new
version is available.

Best wishes,

DrTom

Hi,
(Dr, Tom)

Im glad to see the forum is still active and hoping the CFFA3000 project is too.
I hope to replace my faulting Profile hard drive with one of these but meantime am learning to use disk images and the Oasis emulator.
I trust I will be able to use these a4w files from the CF or flash drive?
I havent used my A//e and GS for 10 yrs and want to pass them on to my kids. Wow so much info on the web for the Apple its daunting.
PS - anyone know what may be wrong with a GS that starts in diagnostic mode and wont boot any drive anymore ?...

Cheers Mike

Hi Steven,

This project is still moving pretty slowly.
I will be sending a revB proto to Dave Schmidt to do some testing for me
especially as it relates to ATDPro. I still have not sent in the Rev C design files
but that should be within a week or two. I am trying to verify the signal integrity
of the Rev B boards before I submit the Rev C design. I am hoping that RevC
will be perfect and its design files will become the production version of the board.

There is still a fair amount of firmware to be written to make the product ready
to ship. I believe this project will get finished but it is really starting to drag time-wise I know.

Rev C PCB has some changes that will help make the board easier and slightly less expensive
to manufacture. I also hope the changes will result is a lower percentage of dead PCBs from
some the CFFA 2 runs. Sometimes I had 10% reject PCBs. Ouch!! I think the main culprit
was the 6mil spacing between copper. I am trying to use 8mil most of the time and 9mil where I can.

Rick
I was not lucky enough to be able to get one of the earlier CFFA boards but am on board for the new CFFA3000. Im glad to hear the project is still progressing even though slowly. The mfg changes you mention for a less expensive process and more stable product sound good too. Keep us informed.
