Switching disk images while program is running

Postby skaratso » Wed Jan 26, 2011 12:16 pm

Will the CFFA3000 have a way to switch active disk images while a program is running?

For instance, several adventure games came on multiple disks and you had to swap them during the game. Will there be a way to change active disk images from within a program, in order to change disks in the emulated drive to satisfy the requirements of the program?

Yes. There is a header on the board that will allow a cable/board with 2 switches and 2 LEDs to be connected to the CFFA3000.
This will allow the user to signal a disk switch for two disk drives.

Currently the plan for how you will specify what disks to switch through has only been vaguely defined.
You will create a directory like say: PrinceOfPersia and inside that directory you will place all of the images that can be switched through.
So if you select that directory for Disk1 each time you press the button you will toggle to the next disk image in that directory.

This feature has not been coded yet so this is subject to change. I have tested the LED/switch interface and it is working.
If I make a switch board, it will be sold separately for a nominal charge.
