Don't forget to check the CFFA compatibility list to see of the device you would like to use has been found by myself of others to compatible or incompatible.

After reading the compatibility list, I feel a bit better. I was having some major problems with 2 Lexar cards. (4X 64MB units)

On the bright side, I have an IBM DTCA-24090 hard drive (4GB) that at least works under ProDOS8 2.0.3 on a ROM01 IIgs. Also works in my IIe.

Toshiba MK2103MAV hard drive (2GB) also works. Both drives work from ProDOS8 2.0.3 in 4-drive and 8-drive firmware.

Just a note that both my Kodak 4 MB CF card and my 340 MB Microdrive work great.

Ok, I have some mixed results using "Mr. Flash" cards.

The 64MB worked fine, copied GS/OS to it and booted fine.
The LED never came on.

I was able to pop the 64MB card in a USB reader and copy the first 32MB partition under Mac OS 9.2 (later I will try the copy with Bernie)

However, the 128MB card lit up the LED.
But it never worked right (repeatedly asked to initialize the partitions, unable to write reliably to any partition)

I am still going to buy a 64MB and 128MB Sandisk card from newegg.com.

Solved my problems by going out and getting a 128MB Sandisk CF card.

Everyone get Sandisk cards and you will have no problems!

I think you can update the compatibility list to say that enhanced //e's work. One of my Apples is a Rev B motherboard //e that I upgraded with an enhancement kit.

I had a small problem with the card when I started in slot 4, but it worked fine in 6 while I copied from the hard drive and then in 7 when it replaced the hard drive. I suspect slot 4 was just dirty because it hasn't had a card in it for at probably 10 years

Hi,

I just got my CFFA card today 7/17/2002 and started to experiment with CF cards.

My setup:
GS/8meg/GSOS6.0.1
Slots:ProGrap/None/TWGS/None/CFFA/None/CMS-HD

Did not work: Using Pro sel 16 Format
SimpleTech 128M - Freezes/Locks when formatting

Addendum:
7/18 - Reformatted &partition on PC, Formatting on apple via prosel 16 says it formats, except it doesnt hold the formatting. GS/OS wants to format every restart.

7/19 - Partition/Formatted card on MAC & PC. CFFA formatted card correctly.

Another card to add to the compatibility list:

I also tested my board with a 64MB "Hagiwara sys-com" CF card THNCFO64MAA (H03AC) made by Toshiba, and it seems to work OK.

I decided to try an old Nikon 8M CompactFlash card, of the type which Nikon used to include with their digital cameras. (Now, they include Lexars.) From what the GS/OS driver reports, it appears to be a Sandisk card, really; thus, it works well.

I just got the 128 meg of the Hagiwara sys-com
card and it also works. The card can be
bought directly on the internet for $43.95
plus s/h at http://www.hscus.com
Model #HPC-CF128V

Another CF that appears to be compatible.
A Japanese unit, made by "I-O Data." They
have a U.S. website at
http://www.iodata.com The unit I tried is
CFS-128M/U (the 128 meg unit, obviously. )
There's no ordering info on their site, but
I got it from http://www.comcapital.net
Interestingly, this unit formats the 4th
partition with 27 meg rather than the 26.5
I got with the Sandisk unit.

I just got and tested a FujiFilm branded CF. Put it down as being like the Delkin unit: I can format it, all verification tests come out fine, and I can write and read from the unit, but it keeps the LED on constantly. Wouldn't be a problem for someone who didn't want to move the LED exterior to the Apple so they could see the light flash.

The Kodak 16mb Picture Card, does not seem to be compatible with the card. It has the same problem as the last CF card listed as incompatible on the main combatibility list, in that it formats, but then shows all sectors as being full.

I'm off to buy a SanDisk CF card . . .

I am surprised that the Kodak card doesn't work. Most Kodak cards are really SanDisk cards. But it is possible that they switched vendors and used someone else for the card you have there.

Indeed, I sent Woz a free CFFA card just for laughs!

Actually, Woz mentioned at Kfest that he received the card and that he was impressed with it. I don't know if that means he actually plugged it in to one of his machines and tried it, or if he was just impressed with the work Rich put into the card. (Woz still has some Apple II's that are up and running, tho he's more of a mac user these days.)

Here's an update on my note above.

I got a 128MG Sandisk flashcard, tried it out, and it works great! (If you're patient, you can pick one up on Ebay for <$30 including shipping.)

I'm glad that Wozniak has seen this hardware, and that he likes it. A solid state Apple II is now possible, with a CFFA card and an LCD screen on an Apple II, moving parts become un-necessary.

Hi,

I'm getting an Apple II+. Your compatibility list says it works with Apple II+, with ROM version 1.3. How do I know what version of the ROM it has?

Thanks.

Good question. The CFFA is currently shipping with version 1.3 CPLD and version 1.3 EPROM. I will update my web page to make that more clear.

Another compatible CF

Hello,

I have tried the CFFA card with a Dane-Elec CF 64MB and it works great.

That's all...
